Palestinian Terror Continues, as Does Amnesty

In a joint action of Yasir Arafat’s Fatah and the Islamic Jihad yesterday a suicide/homicide bomber in Kfar Saba killed two and injured dozens.  The Moslem holy month of Ramadan begins this week and the Palestinian terror organizations are promising death and destruction throughout central Israel.  There is increased security from Hadera to Tel Aviv.

The reason for the low casualties in yesterday’s attack are the direct result of the quick thinking of one of the guards (a new immigrant from Argentina in Israel less than a year) at the mall where the attack took place.  He stopped the terrorist but was killed by the explosion.

At the same time Amnesty International released a report condemning Israeli actions in the West Bank during the Defensive Wall operation claiming Palestinian civilians were killed by IDF actions in Jenin and Nablus.  The witnesses are Palestinian, the Israeli side in battling terrorism does not come to the fore.  Amnesty claims they asked for Israeli reactions before publishing the report.  Most likely the army will have to go through each incident individually, verify, and in most cases the one sided evidence will be refuted.

There are two points here.  The army should have investigated as soon as possible to avoid such a one sided report, but as usual in Israel it is a time honored tradition to deal in ‘damage control’ instead of avoiding the damage from the outset.

And secondly if it were not for the army, the General Security Services and civilian guards such as exist at the malls, casualties would be much higher since some 90% of the terror attacks are thwarted in one form or another.  Were that to be the case, the fabric of Israeli society would be undermined and with it the existence of the Jewish People in the Land of Israel.
